Shreve Memorial Library Board. October 1955. The Shreve Memorial Library Board met in the Mayor's office October 31, at 11:00 a.m. with the following members present: Mr. J.C. Hamilton, Mayor James C. Gardner, Mrs. Marvin Bass, Mrs. T.B. Lanford, Mr. Hardy A. O'Neal. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as maile.d The proposed budget for 1956 was presented for consideration. Items which were new and those which were enlarged were discussed at length. Raises for staff members who have given long and faithful service were approved together with increases in the heat and light and maintenance budgets. The new item for records was discussed in detail and the Board gave permission to circulate records. The total budget of $145,462.00 was approved on motion of Mr. O'Neal, seconded by Mrs. Bass. Results of the tax election were discussed. Mr. Hamilton suggested that a survey made at Caddo Heights to determine why half the votes cast were against the library tax and if there is opposition to the library in that community. The suggestion was made by the librarian that city and parish board meetings be held separately with Miss Cunningham present at the parish meeting. Mr. Hamilton also spoke in favor of making separate reports. No vote was taken on these matters. There being no further business the meeting adjourned. --- Parish Board members met in the librarian's office at 3:00 p.m. October 17 with the following present: Mr. C.B. Moore, Mr. Thomas P. Fitzgerald, Mr. A.G. Hammett, Jr., and Mr. L.W. Thornton. The parish budget for 1956 was presented for consideration. The Board approved a raise for Miss Cunningham and increases in budget items to take care of Summer Grove, proposed new branch. Final approval was given a budget of $22,452.00, pending adoption by the Police Jury. Mr. Moore asked that a time be considered for a tour of parish branches by the Board, parish and city librarian. Miss Cunningham said she would plan a convenient time and inform Mr. Moore later. There being no further business the meeting adjourned. Inez Boone, Secretary
