January 1944, p 2. Also questioned was the item in receipts of the City's appropriation showing $22,051.63, whereas, that item has always appeared in the monthly reports as $22,000.00. The Librarian explained that the City alwasy pays these small expenditures over and above the regular appropriation and this extra amount must appear as a receipt in the financial statement. After some discussion the Chairman said that he would discuss the Parish appropriation with the Secretary of the Police Jury to see if the situation could be clarified and handled in a simpler way. The Chairman will report on his visit at the next meeting of the Board. The Librarian brought up the matter of resignations and appointments which had arisen between Board meetings. Upon motion of Mrs. Lanford seconded by Mrs. Ingersoll, the following resignations were accepted: Margaret Frances Wiseman, resigned to become librarian of the Winn Parish Library, Winnfield, Louisiana - Juanita Ryland, resigned to become Assistant Technical Librarian, Army Air Forces, Specialized Services, Indianapolis, Indiana - Mrs. Eleanor Sirrine, resigned to join her husband stationed with the U.S. Army in California. Upon motion of Mr. Betts, seconded by Mrs. Lanford, the following appointments were approved: Miss Sidney Simmons, Librarian, Parish Department - Miss Peggy Lou Huddleston, Assistant in Parish and Adult departments - Miss Christine Wells, Clerical Assistant. There followed some discussion of the rapid turn-over of personnel due to present low salaries. It was moved by Mr. Betts and seconded by Mrs. Ingersoll that a committee be appointed to go with the Chairman to discuss with Mayor Caldwell and Finance Committee Commissioner Ford, the possibility of an increased appropriaton for salary adjustment. Motion was approved by the Board, Committee to be appointed at a later date. It was requested that the Librarian supply the Chairman with a list of employees, their educational qualifications and their salaries. The attention of the Board was drawn again to the Annual Report of the Librarian and Mrs. Lanford moved that the financial statement for 1943 be incorporated in the minutes. The motion was seconded by Mr. Betts and approved by the Library Board. There followed a brief discussion of the remainded of the Annual Report.
