MINUTES LIBRARY COMMISSION. The first meeting of the Library Commission was held on Thursday, February the 1st, 1923, pursuant to call made by Mayor L.E.Thomas, Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana, convening in the Mayor's parlor, City Hall. Present, Mayor L.E.Thomas, Mrs.T.Alexander, Mrs.J.P.Hird, Mrs.Clarence King, Philip Lieber,Mrs.Edith Brown Bailie. Mayor Thomas opened the meeting with informal discussion of plans for the library,with prospective opening for service to be during May or June of the current year. Election of officers as follows. Philip Lieber,for vice chairman, nominated by Mrs.J.P.Hird, seconded by Mrs.Bailie. Carried. Mrs.Edith Brown Bailie for recording secretary; nominated by Mrs.King, seconded by Mrs.Alexander. Carried. Committees appointed by Mayor Thomas, chairman of the library commission, were as follows; Committee on selection of librarian. Mayor Thomas, rs.King and Mrs.Hird. Committee on rules and regulations and by-laws, Mr.Lieber, Mr.A.E. Gordon and Mrs.Bailie. Committee on building and grounds, Mrs.T. Alexander, Mrs.Youree and Mrs. R.G. Pleasant. Mayor Thomas read correspondence received on various subjects connected with the library, including applications for positions as librarian and assistant librarians. It was the sense of the meeting that there should be engaged one trained librarian, with two assistant librarians, one of whom should be Mrs.Billiu, present librarian of the Peoples' Library. Moved by Mr.Lieber and seconded by Mrs.Alexander that Mrs.Billiu be so appointed. Passed. It was unanimously agreed after discussion that the regular time for meeting of the Library Commission would be the fourth Wednesday in each month,at 10.30 A.M. Moved by Mrs. Hird, seconded by Mrs.King that said date be accepted. Carried.
