SHREVE MEMORIAL LIBRARY BOARD. MARCH 1952. The Shreve Memorial Library Board met in the office of the Librarian at 11 A.M., Friday, March 28th, with the following members present: Mr. J.C. Hamilton, Mr. J.P. Fullilove, Mayor Clyde E. Fant, Mr. F. Leonard Hargrove, Mr. George A. Meadows, and Mrs. Marvin W. Bass. The minutes were approved as read with one minor correction. The Librarian reported various gifts amounting to $ 100.00 for projected book films. The gifts were $ 50.00 from the Shreveport Lions Club, $ 25.00 from Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Williamson and $ 25.26 from the 3rd grade at Creswell School The Librarian was directed to write letters of thanks for each contribution. The Librarian reported that Louisiana State University wishes to borrow files of old Shreveport news papers for microfilming. The purpose of microfilming is to preserve invaluable historical records and if Shreve Memorial so desires copies will be made at a minimum rate for the Library. Mayor Fant moved that the papers be sent to L.S.U. with the provision that they be returned to Shreve with microfilm copies. Upon Mr. Hargrove's second the Board members gave their approval. Mayor Fant reported that several committees from Cedar Grove had called upon him concerning their branch library. Its present condition is very bad but the present location is the best available at this time since the Library has no funds with which to purchase property. The only solution, Mayor Fant felt, is to remodel and enlarge the present quarters. He requested that he be given authority to employ an architect to draw up suggested plans for this purpose. The Board so moved. The Librarian then asked the Mayor if there were any report he could make on the proposed salary schedule. He stated that the City Council is making a study of ths schedule and that no action has been taken to date. The Librarian stated that she wished to do some documentary research abroad and asked for a two months leave of absence in addition to three weeks vacation. She also asked for three weeks leave of absence for Miss Ethelyn Cousin who plans a trip abroad in the late summer. At the same time she recommended that the Board send Miss Inez Boone to the American Library Association Convention to be held in New York City the first week of July. Mrs. Bass moved that the leaves of absence be granted as requested and that Miss Boone be sent to the Convention, whereupon the Board gave their approval. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Bess Vaughan, Secretary
