Shreve Memorial Library Board of Control Minutes May 22, 1995, Page 6 Stephenson's Carpets at their meeting in the Board room on May I5, 1995. Mr. Elford explained various details about the quality, cleanability, versatility and practicality of modular carpet squares verses roll carpeting. He recommended Mannington as a superior brand carpet for the Library. He offered to draw a suggested plan of carpet patterns for the Library, but recommended Deborah Haws if we felt the need for an interior designer. (See attached Buildings and Grounds Committee Minutes.) The director reviewed the Buildings and Grounds committee recommendations: to purchase modular carpet squares instead of rolls) for an additional cost of $40,000, purchase the Stack Mover at the cost of $14,000 and additional labor at an estimated cost of $21,000, for a total budget adjustment of $75,000 to be taken from the contingency reserve fund (see attached Buildings and Grounds Committee Minutes). He added that the committee had discussed the possibility of consulting a design specialist for color selection and design. He met before the Board meeting with interior designer, Deborah Haws. In his conversation with Deborah Haws, she suggested a pre-approval bid, where other companies can bid, so we are not limited to one carpet manufacturer. Ken Epperson moved and Orella Brazile seconded the motion to accept the recommendation from the Buildings and Grounds committee to purchase carpet squares instead of rolls), purchase the Stack Mover, and additional labor as needed for an additional total of $75, 000 to be taken from the contingency reserve fund. The motion passed unanimously. The director suggested another meeting of the Buildings and Grounds committee to decide on the use of an interior designer to help with the initial selection and planning. He suggested seeking a proposal from Deborah Haws (before the meeting) and request she attend the meeting. Glenn O'Bryan recommended that the Board grant permission for the Buildings and Grounds committee to make a decision whether to employ an interior designer to evaluate the Library's carpet needs.
