SHREVE MEMORIAL LIBRARY BOARD. November 1947. The Shreve Memorial Library Board met in the office of the Librarian at 10:30 A.M., on November 14, 1947, with the following members present: Mr. J.C. Hamilton, Chairman, Mayor Clyde Fant, Mr. F. Leonard Hargrove, Mrs. T.B. Lanford, Mrs. Marvin Bass, Mr. George A. Meadows, Mr. C.B. Moore, and Mr. Louie Throgmorton. The Chairman called for the reading of the minutes which were adopted as read. Then Mr. Hamilton and Mayor Fant reported on the bids received from contractors for the building of the branch library in queensborough. The bids were as follows: [table list] Since the J.M. Brown Construction Company had turned in the lowest bid, Mayor Fant moved that it be accepted by the Board, Mr. Hargrove seconded, and the vote was unanimously in favor. It was suggested by the Mayor that the Chairman, Contractor, and Architect confer on the building plans before the awarding of the contract. The Librarian presented a proposed budget for the Parish Department for 1948. Included in the budget was a request for half the price of a library car and a new mimeograph machine to be used jointly by the Parish Department and by the city library. After some discussion, Mr. Throgmorton moved that the budget request of $14,000.00 be approved, Mrs. Lanford seconded, and the Board voted in favor of the motion. Mr. Meadows then directed the Librarian to write directly to the Chairman of the Caddo Parish Police Jury stating the action taken by the Board, enclosing a copy of the budget request and explainging reasons for the appropriation needed.
