MINUTES- April 4, 1930 --2-- The chairman stated that Mr. Hardin had been appointed to fill Mrs. Alexander's place on the Board, same being approved by the City Council. The Librarian called attention to the absence of Mrs. Crane from the library for three weeks being called to Chicago by death of her Uncle. The Librarian recommended that Mrs. Crane be granted two weeks of the time as her vacation with pay. Discussion followed and Mr. Hardin moved that Mrs. Crane be granted her two weeks with pay and also allowed one week to go and come to attend the funeral. This motion was seconded by Mrs. King and carried. A matter to adopt budget for library for 1930 as represented by Budget Committee was discussed. Mrs. King moved that the budget be adopted and seconded by Mr. Hardin. Carried. Mayor Thomas presented report of Bldg. Inspector ad an estimate on work in the building which was deemed necessary by a recent action of City Council. All buildings should have ventilation to prevent explosions of gas accumulation. This matter was referred to Mayor Thomas, Chairman with power to act. Librarian reported the loss of shrubbery on ground due to severe weather during the winter. Also presented an estimate from Lambert for $254.00 for this work. Board discussed matter and approved of $200.00 expenditure on grounds and Librarian instructed to inform Mr. Lambert of the amount available for such work. Mr. Gordon, Chairman of Committee to select and receive estimates on display cases for Library, presented prices and cuts of such cases recommending purchase of Library Bureau display cases at $175.00 ea. After discussion, it was moved that Librarian purchase one case this year at $175.00. Carried. Mr. Hardin bought before the Board the matter of Parish Library, presenting a Contract which he had drawn up. After discussion the Board passed resolutions presented by Mr. Hardin and a Committee composing Mr. Hardin, Mrs. Hird and Mrs. Henderson was appointed to present same to the Police Jury for their approval and signature.
