FEBRUARY 1934. MINUTES. The Shreve Memorial Library Board met in the office of the Librarian, February 16. Members present were Mayor George W. Hardy, Mrs. John P. Hird and Mr. John Slattery. Minutes of last meeting were read and approved. Annual report was given and January report read and approved. Librarian presented the request for a trained cataloger at $100.00 per month. There was no person available in the city of Shreveport for such a position and the salary exceeded the amount allotted in the budget. This was turned down. Librarian rpesented request of the negroes for the branch library to be stablished on Milam Street. The amount of rent on the building to be $200.00 per year, a custodian to be in charge at a nominal salary of $9.00 per month. Some old books and gift books to supply the demands of this library. All new purchases during the year would be placed in Shreve Memorial Library. No action was taken. The Librarian was instructed to see if the rent could be reduced and to report at the next meeting.
