Board Meeting July 13, 1967 The Shreve Memorial Library Board and the Caddo Parish Library Committee met in the Larkin Edwards Room in the main library Thursday, July 13, at 11 o'clock with the following members present: Mr. Robert H. Nelson, Jr., President, Mayor Clyde E. Fant, Mrs. Marvin W. Bass, Mrs. Vernon Woods, Mr. Owne Adams, Mr. Noah Tyson and Mr. L.R. Fleming. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed. Mayor Fant discussed a capital improvement program which will soon begin in the city. He suggested that Mr. Nelson, Mrs. Rembert and another Board member meet within the next ten days or two weeks to discuss the needs of the library. Mr. Nelson reported the sub-committee, composed of Mrs. Woods, Mrs. Rembert and Mr. Nelson, had drawn up a suggested slate of officers to head the Friends of the Shreve Memorial Library Group: Mr. Glenn Mason-President, Mr. Clarence Yancey - Vice-President, Mrs. Harry Johnson, Secretary-Treasurer. The initial meeting would be a combined organizational meeting, display of the newly acquired lending art collection and a tour of the library. The membership will receive various publications, book-lists, etc. to stimulate their interest in the library. Membership fees were proposed as follows: $3.00 - Individual, $5.00 - Family, $10.00 - contributing, $25.00 - Patron, $100.00 - Life. Mr. Adams proposed that the Caddo Parish Extension Library combine with the Shreve Memorial Library in forming one Friends Group. Mrs. Boggs was requested to contact Library Committee members and Parish Branch libraries for lists of names for membership. Mr. Nelson asked Mrs. Rembert to send a copy of all names submitted for membership to each board member in order that corrections and additions might be made. Mrs. Bass made the motion that the Library Board go on record as accepting with appreciation the gift of books given by Col. John H. Tucker, Jr., and that a letter be sent thanking him for this outstanding donation to the Shreve Memorial Library. This was seconded by Mrs. Woods and carried.
