SHREVE MEMORIAL LIBRARY. January 1944. The Shreve Memorial Library Board met in the office of the Librarian onThusrday, January 27th, at 4 P.M., with the following members present: Mrs. T.B. Lanford, Mrs. George Ingersoll, Mr. I. Frank Betts, Mr. Lon Jennings and Mr. J.C. Hamilton, Chairman. Upon motion of Mr. Jennings, seconded by Mrs. Lanford, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. After some discussion of the Annual Report for 1943, the Chairman called upon the Librarian for an explanation of her financial statement, particularly $2,320.00 included in the parish appropriation which does not appear in the monthly report to the Board. The Librarian's explanation was as follows: 1. The monthly report form was set up by the city auditors and concerns only the money handled by the City Finance Office. 2. $2,000.00 of the $2,320.00 item was an additional appropriation made by the Police Jury in January 1943. This amount, however, was especially earmarked for the purchase of books and was not turned over to the City Finance Office but handled separately by the Police Jury. The $320.00 was granted in January of 1944 as an unexpended balance curried over from 1942, to be spent immediately and counted as a 1943 expenditure. 3. The $2,320.00 item could not be shown in the monthly report as a receipt nor as an expenditure because the city did not handle that money. The only place where this transaction could be shown was in the annual report to the Library Board. THE STATEMENT SO DISCUSSED FOLLOWS: [list table] -1-
