Minutes--Shreve Memorial Library--2. 2. That all books necessary for the branch libraries shall be purchased by first making requisition to the Secretary of the Police Jury. 3. That the appropriation of $10,000 shall be used solely for the purchase of books, except $1,000.00 of which may be used toward salaries of attendants and transportation of books to and from the branch libraries. The following action was taken by the Shreve Memorial Library Board. Resolved: that while the Board accepts the letter from Mr. Sentell, President of the Caddo Police Jury, at the same time this Board believes and is convinced that out of the budget appropriated by the Police Jury, compensation should be provided for the actual expense that the Shreve Memorial Library is put to in cataloging and classifying the books and for keeping records of all books sent to and from the Parish branches; and that the Police Jury be notified that further consideration of the matter be an act of justice. This resolution was adopted. A letter from Miss Willie Reese Snell, Children's Librarian, addressed to Mrs. Henderson, Librarian, was read by the Chairman of the Board. Miss Snell stated in the letter that under advice of her physician, she would be detained in Hot Springs for medical attention for several weeks, and therefore requested a leave of absence for the time necessary. Mr. Hardin moved that Miss Snell be granted the necessary time off but that compensation for the time be dis-allowed for the reason that her trouble is chronic and the Board felt that she should have had the necessary medical attention during her vacation period of two weeks which she had been granted in the summer; and the added fact that Miss Snell has been out on several occasion s prior to this on account of ill health. This motion was seconded and passed by the Board. Mrs. S.A. Alexander of the Advisory Board from the Police Jury met with th eShreve Memorial Library Board. Mrs. Alexander expressed her appreciation of the service which had been given to the rural libraries and spoke of the pleasure Greenwood had derived from its library. Mrs. Alexander also stated that more books were badly needed, particularly for the adult readers. The Chairman expressed the pleasure of the Board in having Mrs. Alexander meet with them and requested that she go before the Police Jury and tell of the results from the Branch Libraries and make a plea for more books. Mrs. Hird moved that the Library Board meet at an earlier hour during the winter months. After some discussion it was decided to call the meetings at 4 P.M. during the winter months from October 1st to March 1st, and for 5P.M. from March to October. The Librarian stated that Miss Babry who had been used as a supernumerary suring the summer had not qualified as a secretary and was therefore permitted to leave October 15th. The Librarian has found a person qualified as a secretary and with Library training in Mrs. Grace H. Ingersoll. Mrs. Ingersoll will do the secretarial work and the record keeping for the rural branches for $100.00 per month. The Board approved this appointment.
