Minutes of the Shreve Memorial Library Board January 21, 1982 Page 2 not require Shreve Memorial Library to continue to be a 'cooperating public library' or to become a 'cooperating public library' in other areas."" Hal Jackson moved and Hardy O'Neal seconded a motion to adopt the policy with the statement above added at the end of the first paragraph. Motion passed. Jim Pelton reported that the circulation for the year had improved substantially over the year before and that the main library's circulation had surpassed even Broadmoor's for November and December 1981 (See Attachment #3). A financial summary for the year was given with estimated collection of the 1981 tax rolls ($1,080,000 plus $104,000 in State Revenue Sharing). It would still be several months before most of the 1981 tax money was received, and a final exact statement could be presented. Lane Sartor said that Ben Marshall from the Shreveport Beautification Foundation had contacted him on January 20, 1982 with a proposal for landscaping around the library and in the entrance. A large sketch had been delivered to the library and was shown at the Board meeting. Mrs. Wallette asked if this plan for landscaping was similar to the one proposed by the Downtown Development Authority. It was in many ways similar but not identical. After discussing the proposal in general terms, Hal Jackson moved to express appreciation to Ben Marshall and the Shreveport Beautification Foundation for the proposal and that the plan be referred to the Building and Grounds Committee for further study and recommendation to the Board. After this was done, the library would then contact Ben Marshall again. Motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned.
