Minutes of Shreve Memorial Library Board January 12, 1984 Page 2 and Mavice Wallette seconded a motion to accept the nominating committee's slate of officers. Motion passed. Haller Jackson moved to spread upon the minutes a resolution recognizing Lane Sartor's and Jim Pelton's effort be noted in the tax election campaign. The large favorable vote was for the most part due to their work. Mickey Shirley seconded the motion. Lane Sartor commented that everyone was gratified by the results of the election but that he thought the whole Board should be added to the resolution because every member worked on some phase of the tax election. Lane Sartor also stated that many staff members beside Jim Pelton volunteered to help with the campaign. It was this combined effort of the Board, staff and some 700 volunteers that accounted for the overwhelming margin of victory. Jim Pelton added that he appreciated the great amount of effort put forth by the Board members. Henry Brenner, from the Ambassador's Club of Holiday In Dixie, met with the Executive Committee of the Board and requested space in the Eaves Room for a semi-permanent exhibit of Holiday In Dixie memorabilia. Mickey Shirley explained that he was also on this committee and the group thought that a number of people had items that could be collected if there was a semi-permanent space available for organizing and displaying them. The Ambassador's Club thought that the main library would lend itself to their project because of potential space, number of hours the library was open, etc. Such a semi-permanent exhibit would be a change from the library's current display policy of having only temporary and rotating exhibits. After a lengthy discussion it was the concensus of the group that the Board should decline acceptance of any semi-permanent display. Jack Stutsman moved and Ellen Caverlee seconded a motion not to deviate or change our policy of having only rotating type displays. Motion passed. Lane Sartor said that he would call Henry Brenner to notify him of the Board's decision and would follow up with a letter. Holiday In Dixie was, of course, welcome to book the Eaves Room for a temporary display each year as part of our rotating exhibits and had already booked the space for 1984. Jim Pelton explained the procedures the library went through seeking proposals for an administrative copier. The low price was submitted by American Business Products for a Minolta EP 650Z for $6,909.00. (For detailed comparison of cost see attachment #2.) The Minolta EP 650Z also had many desirable features in addition to it being the lowest priced. Jack Stutsman moved and Mavice Wallette seconded a motion to purchase the Minolta EP 650Z. Motion passed. Jim Pelton updated the Board on the telephone system at the main library and the negotiations that were going on between the City and South Central Bell. (See attachment #3 for details.) It has become obvious that the library would pay less now by going with our own independent system rather than being an off premise location of the City. Jim Pelton can handle these changes administratively. However, he wanted the Board to be aware that with the contested charges from 1983, it was
