SML Board of Control Minutes March 27, 1995, Page 6 BOARD ATTENDANCE AND MEETING DATE REVIEW: Haller Jackson asked for suggestions of a better meeting date, if needed. Discussion followed about different meeting dates and times. Marion Weiss suggested meeting in the second half of the month on Monday. The Board reached a consensus to meet bi-monthly on the fourth Monday, beginning in January of each year, at 12:00 noon. The next meeting date will be May 22, 1995. The bylaws will be updated to reflect this change in meeting dates. APPROPRIATE RECOGNITION FOR DEPARTING BOARD MEMBERS: Haller Jackson recounted that long-standing Board members have traditionally been given a reception when they step down from the Board. He suggested another form of honor, such as a resolution, be given to departing Board members that have not served as long a time. He recommended that a resolution be presented to former Board members Barbara Pendleton and Ernest Lampkins. Ken Epperson moved that a plaque and a letter of appreciation from the Board be prepared for former Board members - Barbara Pendleton and Ernest Lampkins. Discussion followed and he amended the motion to include a plaque containing a formal resolution from the Board instead of a letter from the Board) to be presented at the Board meeting on May 22. Orella Brazile suggested a formal presentation that includes the media. Glenn O'Bryan seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: The director reviewed the memo about Library Board committees, including a committee preferences form, which had been sent to each Board member prior to the meeting (see attached memo). Additional committee forms were placed on the table before each member to be sure that every member turned in their preferences to serve on the Board committees. Haller Jackson reported that the Buildings and Grounds committee needs to meet very soon to make some decisions regarding new carpeting for the main library. He explained that he would use the preferences form to help appoint the committees according to the members' preferences.
