11/7/58. Shreveport Sun. CADDO BOOKMOBILE DEMONSTRATION. Shreveport, Louisiana. Bookmobile service for Negro residents of Caddo who live outside the City of Shreveport will begin January 16, Miss Inez Boone, librarian of the Shreve Memorial Library, announced today. The bookmobile "a library on wheels" will bring free library service to areas now without library facilities. The bookmobile is a large truck with shelving inside. Thore will be over 1,500 books and magazines on many subjects and every one from the pre-school child to the adult will find books that he will enjoy and need. The bookmobile will operate on a regular schedule visiting each scheduled stop at a regular time each two weeks. Books are loaned free of charge. All that is necessary to borrow books is to sign a card giving the borrower's name and address. In addition, parents must sign the card of the children giving their permission for the child to borrow books. This bookmobile is made possible by a one year demonstration financed by the Louisiana State Library in cooperation with the Caddo Police Jury. All library services in Caddo are under the general supervision of the Shreve Memorial Library and headquarters for the bookmobile will be in the Shreve Library. Schedules of bookmobile trips will be announced next week. Regular stops will be made at all of the schools outside the city and at grocery stores, filling stations, churches, and community meeting places.
